From the union movement to Parliament

Hon. Luba Grigorovitch MP is the Labor Member for Kororoit and Victoria's Minister for Youth, Carers and Volunteers. This is her story, in her own words.

I grew up in Melbourne's west and went to high school at Mount St Joseph Girls' College in Altona West. I later went on to Victoria University, where I completed a double degree in Business and Arts.

Standing up for working people

In 2014, I became the first woman, and the youngest ever, State Secretary of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU), representing more than 8,000 members. In this role, I spent years advocating for working people, fighting to make sure they are respected in the workplace, have better conditions, and are safe on the job. Standing up for workers is incredibly important to me because I understand firsthand how vital it is to feel valued, respected, and protected at work.

In 2019, I went on to become the RTBU's first female National President, representing transport workers right across the country.

A formative start

Earlier in my career, I had the privilege of working for the late Lynne Kosky, former Member for Altona, as an Electorate Officer. That experience was truly formative for me. Lynne was an incredible mentor, and someone I will always be grateful to for shaping who I am today.

From local council to Parliament

After finishing university, I worked with the Victorian Department of Transport and VicTrack, where I began my journey with the RTBU. Around that time, I also put my hand up to run for Hobsons Bay City Council because I wanted to do more for my community. I was elected and served nearly two terms before stepping down in 2014. My time in local government gave me valuable insight into how decisions affect people's day-to-day lives and strengthened my commitment to public service.

Together, we can be part of something bigger than ourselves. That belief drives me to give 100 per cent every day.

My focus for Kororoit

My passion as a Member of Parliament is to work tirelessly for the people of Kororoit. I am focused on delivering more jobs, better education, and world-class healthcare for our growing community. That means investing in local schools, supporting our public hospitals, and building the road and rail infrastructure our community needs.

Kororoit is a vibrant and diverse community, and I am so proud to represent it, making sure local families always have a strong and powerful voice.

Outside Parliament

Outside of Parliament, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, and I have a passion for cooking, reading and walking. I believe that by working together, we can create a fairer, more inclusive community where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
