The Victorian Government has begun building a new Macquarie Perch Recovery Centre at the Snobs Creek Hatchery, backed by a $15 million investment to upgrade fish production facilities.
The centre will produce up to 500,000 Macquarie perch fingerlings each year, alongside 500,000 trout cod, using advanced water recirculation and climate control technology.
It supports a research partnership focused on reliably breeding this threatened native species in captivity, helping to restore wild populations for generations to come.
